The Beach Chalet Fields in Golden Gate Park are a bit tricky to find for first-timers. Do NOT show up at the park expecting to see signs telling you "Beach Chalet Fields, this way ->" because these signs simply don't exist. In the same spirit, we did not put most of the street names in the directions below because, well, street name signs are so damn scarce throughout the park (and always have been), you can never tell what street you're on anyway.
Thus, please look carefully for the landmarks we list below, and allow extra time in case you get lost.
From the South (including Sunset, Silicon Valley, 280):
Via 19th Ave:
Note: Left turns are prohibited on 19th Ave, so as you're coming up 19th Ave. from I-280N, you'll need to do a series of (legal) right and left turns to cross 19th Ave.
* Turn right on Irving St.
* Turn left on 18th Ave.
* Turn left on Lincoln Way
* Turn right on Chain of Lakes Dr E (into the park).
* Turn left at the first stop sign (MLK Dr.).
* Take right at next stop sign (Middle Dr.).
* Entrance to Beach Chalet Fields parking lot will be on the left.
Via Sunset Blvd:
* Follow signs to Hwy 1/Golden Gate Bridge.
* Exit Brotherhood Way.
* Turn right on Lake Merced.
* Follow the road as it winds around the lake.
* Road turns into Sunset Blvd.
* Sunset Blvd dead ends into Golden Gate Park
* Turn left at stop sign (MLK Dr.).
* Bear right at next stop sign (Bernice Rodgers Way).
* Entrance to Beach Chalet Fields parking lot will be on the left.
From the East (including Downtown, Bay Bridge, East Bay, 80, 101N)
* Take 80 to SF (Bay Bridge)
* Take the 9TH ST exit towards Civic Ctr./Golden Gate Bridge
* Turn Left on Harrison
* Turn Right on 9TH St
* Turn Left on Hayes
* Turn Left on Gough
* Turn Right on Fell
* Stay in two left lanes.
* As Fell splits, when it runs into Golden Gate Park, follow the road left.
* Fell then turns into Lincoln Way.
* Follow Lincoln for about 2.2 miles.
* Turn right on Chain of Lakes Dr E (into the park).
* Turn left at the first stop sign (MLK Dr.).
* Take right at next stop sign (Middle Dr.).
* Entrance to Beach Chalet Fields parking lot will be on the left.
From the North (including Richmond, Marina, Marin County, Golden Gate Bridge, 101S):
* Take Park Presidio Blvd./Hwy 1/ US 101 southbound.
* Turn Right on Fulton St
* Turn Left on 47th Ave
* Turn Left on John F Kennnedy Dr
* Entrance to Beach Chalet Fields parking lot will be on the right.
